Massage Therapy & Reiki

Aromatherapy Enhancement

Aromatherapy uses essential oils derived from plants to promote relaxation, invigoration or alleviate pain. Your massage therapist will blend up to five oils customized for your needs. For example, ylang ylang, jasmine and geranium offer anxiety and stress reduction, while camomile, cypress and eucalyptus help relieve muscle soreness. Add Aromatherapy to any of the massage treatments below for an additional $10.

Swedish

Swedish massage involves the use of kneading, stroking, friction, tapping, and vibration. This modality can provide relief from stiffness, numbness, pain, constipation, and other health problems. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Other possible benefits include stimulation of circulation, an increase in muscle tone and a balance of the musculoskeletal systems. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes.

Deep Tissue/Neuromuscular

Deep tissue massage is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish but the pressure is generally more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots also known as “adhesions.”

Reiki Therapy

Reiki is a healing practice to harmonize the Pranic body. Through the process of channeling prana (life force energy) into your subtle energy body, the practitioner is able to clear the nadis (energy channels), aura, and chakras (wheels of energy) leaving you feeling balanced and refreshed.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage focuses on preventing injury, relieving soreness and helping speed up muscle recovery by flushing out toxins and waste products by transporting oxygen-rich blood into muscles and tissue. Active-isolated stretches increase flexibility and range of motion. Sports massage supports training and conditioning and enhances athletic performance. Massage is specifically tailored to each sport.

Pregnancy Massage (After 1st trimester only)

Designed to meet the special needs of the expectant mother. During pregnancy, your body undergoes many changes, some of them stressful and discomforting. Massage can safely, comfortably and effectively relieve stress, pain, backaches, control varicose veins, relieve leg cramps and help reduce edema (swelling) of the extremities. Massage helps increase red blood cell count, particularly important to those with anemia, helping to eliminate fatigue.

Indian Head Massage

More than just a “head rub,” the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp, face and ears are massaged, along with Marma Points (energy points – similar to Chinese Acupuncture points). There are 107 marma points on the body (37 on the head, face and neck and 14 on the back alone). Traditional Indian massage has been used for centuries to relieve tension, stress, and muscular aches, alleviate nervousness and anxiety and to restore energy. Benefits also include, improved circulation to the head, face and neck, promote hair growth, improve lymphatic drainage of head, face and neck. Indian Head massage relieves headaches, eye strain, sinusitis, congestion and insomnia.

Thai Foot Massage: Reflexology

This form of foot massage has been practiced for thousands of years and originated in India as part of the Ayurvedic Medical System. Thai Foot Massage combines foot and lower leg massage along with stimulation of the reflexology points. Reflexology points correspond to different areas of the body and specific points relate to specific organs. Sen Lines or Energy Channels are similar to the acupuncture meridians in Chinese medicine. Sen lines are worked in the lower legs and feet to stimulate and open up these channels. Massage, stretches, thumb pressure and the use of a special Thai stick made out of teak will leave you relaxed, balanced and invigorated.

Medical/ Injury Orthopedic Massage

Specific techniques are used to address chronic pain and injuries of all types. Assessment, treatment, muscular re-education, postural release and proprioception are used to treat many ailments, conditions and diseases.

TMJ Relief Masssage

Temporomandibular Joint disorders, commonly known as TMJ, can be extremely painful, with many symptoms including difficulty chewing, headaches, earaches and clicking or popping in the jaw. This short, 30-minute massage targets the muscles of the scalp, face, neck and shoulders using a combination of ischemic pressure on trigger points as well as more traditional Swedish and Deep Tissue movements. The muscles in and around the jaw are relaxed and softened, creating more space in the joint and reducing or eliminating pain. Recommended on a weekly basis for a period of 3-6 weeks, then monthly for maintenance.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage utilizes heated basalt rocks along with traditional massage techniques. The mineral content of the basalt is ideal for holding and radiating heat. The warmed stones are placed on the body and glided along the major muscle groups so their warmth penetrates and relaxes the muscles, allowing the therapist to work more deeply. If you are especially tight or stiff, the stones may provide the extra relaxation you need to make the massage even more beneficial in reducing tension and easing sore muscles.

Balinese Massage

The Balinese Massage combines Hindu, Chinese and European techniques. It is a very relaxing and meditative, yet energizing massage. It uses seven different movements including: skin rolling, thumb-walking, percussion – light tapping motions to promote blood flow to the skin and surrounding muscles. This blissful 90-minutes also includes aromatic essential oil blends of your choice to be used during the massage.
